Dreadnaught – Getting Tight With Dreadnaught (2015)

Standard

Dreadnaught are a USA based band, with Bob Lord as the main composer, producer and bassist of the band. They have released several albums and EPs, making Getting Tight With Dreadnaught their fifth EP.

First thing I want to say about this is that it’s too bad that this is only an EP and not a full length album, because it is amazing! It sounds fantastic as well! Very up tempo music with a lot of surprising elements here and there, which I really love. It is experimental and melodic prog rock which makes you feel good, makes your head nod on the rhythm and your feet tap. The roaring bass guitar is very present in the music, which I love as well. The band has a lot of humour which you can hear in their music.

The first track called Nervous Little Dogs makes you instantly awake. It’s an instrumental track and makes you want to shout along with the “Hey Ho” shouts! The acoustic guitar solo is quite refreshing. I even think the track is a bit on the short side, it would have been great if the track lasted a little bit longer. The second track The Badger has nice theme and rhythm changes which has anything but an unnatural feel. The third track This Time Next Year reminds me a bit of Level 42, and I really don’t know why actually. I think it’s because the way they sing and the positive musical outings. The fourth track Knife Hits has a dark and haunting intro, but later it turns into a great track (I think it’s my favourite from the whole EP). The bass just sounds awesome on that track. The last track (yes, it’s way too short) called Barefoot Kicker starts a bit poppy, but it’s quite catchy! The singing reminds me of Gerry Rafferty. The outro of the track is hilarious, I can’t explain it so you have to listen for yourself.

What can I say? This is a very lovely EP that actually should have been an album. If you love refreshing progressive rock with a lot of musical twists and surprises than this is a must buy album!
